Barbara Gillespie

Barb is a certified Audit Team Leader (ATL) in the Internal Assessments organization at the Waste Treatment Plant Project. She is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor (CQA). She has been with Bechtel for three and a half years.

Barb Gillespie has 29 years experience in radiochemical analysis, project management, environmental monitoring, quality control and quality assurance. Barb started her career in radiochemistry at the Rocky Flats Plant near Golden, Colorado, analyzing plutonium feed solutions and measuring plutonium solids for accountability. She moved to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) on the Hanford Site as a senior research scientist developing actinide separation and analysis processes. She then had the opportunity to manage the first CERCLA analytical project at PNNL and some of the Single and Double Shell Tank analysis projects. She transitioned to quality control and task lead for the Hanford Groundwater and Environmental Monitoring projects where her responsibilities included technical administration of several analytical chemistry commercial contracts. Barb then had the opportunity to be an operations manager and project manager for a commercial radiochemistry laboratory.

Needing a change of geography, she moved to New Mexico to be near family in Colorado, and was responsible for quality assurance at a Material Testing Laboratory at Los Alamos National Laboratory for weapons manufacturing. She then moved to Sandia National Laboratory and was the Quality Assurance Engineer for the Industrial Hygiene Compliance Services and Radiation Protection Laboratories.

Barb has a double Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Chemistry from the University of Southern Colorado (now Colorado State University at Pueblo). She is an active member of the American Society for Quality and the American Chemical Society.

Outside of work activities include camping, fishing, hiking, playing golf, watching all kinds of sports (except hockey), reading mysteries, and enjoys being an active grandparent to two grand-daughters and a grandson.
